In the capital, more and more radical activists determine our lives. First it was the air-conditioning stickers that blocked the way for drivers to go to the doctor or to work. Now other self-proclaimed environmentalists are even deciding what names buildings are allowed to bear!
The occupants of a lecture hall demanded that the library of the TU should no longer have the addition “Volkswagen”. And the university administration didn’t throw out the squatters, but bowed to the demands.
Sure: VW’s donation dates back more than 20 years, and no name is forever. In a democracy, however, activists who have no legitimacy are not allowed to decide whether, how and when to change a name. Who says whether the majority of the squatters were actually TU students?
Apparently, only the loudest and most annoying are right at the moment in Berlin.
