‘This is a bit weird’

Matthijs van Nieuwkerk gets a cold shower from Jan Uriot. The star journalist of Privé thinks it is hypocritical that the presenter refuses questions about his private life, but does ask others about it.

There was some annoyance this week at RTL Boulevard and Shownieuws, because Matthijs van Nieuwkerk refused to answer questions about his private life at the presentation of his new collection of short stories. He only wanted to use the show sections to generate some attention for his booklet, but not give anything in return.

Silent Matthijs

Private star journalist Jan Uriot thinks that is a bit bland in Matthijs’ case. “Matthijs van Nieuwkerk presented a new book this week and half the Dutch press is invited to it, but he does not want to say how much fun he is having with his new wife,” he says in his column. What does Jan think?

He continues: “That is then asked by all those showbiz sections and he does not respond to that. That’s fine, you have to respect it if people don’t want to. Then you just have to respect that.”

hypocritical

However, Matthijs is a bit hypocritical, Jan thinks. “What was he doing last February? Then Matthijs had the ‘Forever Young’ section in the TV broadcast of Matthijsgaat Door and Willeke Alberti was in it.”

It was the intention that Willeke would talk about her musical oeuvre there. Willeke Alberti comes there, to that studio, to answer questions about her career, her rich career. What does he start about? About the breakup and the divorce of John de Mol and continues to ask brutally about it.”

Cold shower

Then Matthijs himself shouldn’t whine when he gets some questions about his private life, says Jan. “If you don’t want to do all that yourself, don’t just do it yourself. Don’t ask those kinds of questions. That makes me a little cold.”

So a cold shower for Matthijs. The reason the presenter was so spastic about questions about his private life? He seems to have fun with his kids.
