Open Vld had to swallow the worst poll result ever last week. The party only gets 8.3 percent in the poll of Het Laatste Nieuws, VTM, Le Soir and RTL. “A very bad result”, Flemish Open Vld minister Bart Somers described it last week, but Flemish representative – and former party chairman – Gwendolyn Rutten also makes no bones about it. “This is a terrible result,” she responds to ‘Villa Politica’. “This won’t make you happy.”

Rutten says she wants to contribute to a solution. “In all times there is a need for liberalism. The party can count on me”, but the “task now lies with the party leadership”.
