This destination will be given to the vacant residential complex on the Vaartdreef

The residential complex on Vaartdreef has been empty for a long time. The previous older residents have long since moved and every now and then a single room is suddenly occupied again. Why does that building look like this and what will happen to it? And, especially now that the housing shortage is so high. We will contact Vidomes.

We received these questions from several readers. She and we have been wondering for some time now: what will happen to that apartment building in which many home seekers would love to have a home. Fortunately, we have been able to get more clarity.

With residential complex ‘t Seghe Waert are ambitious housing plans. It consists of three phases in which sustainability and new construction play an important role. Local residents are informed through newsletters and walk-in meetings.

Renovation and new construction

Maintenance work will be carried out on the apartment building in November, and in the homes themselves at the beginning of 2023. In addition, Vidomes wants to make the apartments more sustainable. Roofs and facades will be insulated, stone strips will be installed on the outside and the balcony gates will have glass screens. On the low wing of the building, an additional floor with five homes will be built. The former hospice and the current recreation room are being transformed into five houses.

Additional parking spaces will be built around the building. Vidomes will continue to rent out the existing but also the new homes to seniors in this first phase. The houses are made as suitable as possible for this target group.

Phase 2 and 3

The plans for subprojects 2 and 3 are still under development. That’s why Vidomes can’t tell you much about that at the moment. In terms of new construction, the housing association is considering two and three-room apartments and sufficient parking spaces around the complex. From 2023, Vidomes will further coordinate the plans with the municipality. They also involve local residents.

The homes, which will be part of the transformed care home, are intended for all target groups: from young to old, from single to family. Some of the homes are for residents with care needs. There will be approximately 120 homes, ranging from one-room apartments to single-family homes.

Temporarily inhabited

The original inhabitants left some time ago. After that, the building was temporarily occupied by various groups, including residents of Fonteynenburg and Middin. At the moment, the building is managed by – and the homes are put into use through – vacancy manager Interveste. The nursing home will probably be used for storage and as a construction shed during the work. Vidomes also wants to use a number of homes of the nursing home as guest house/rest home while the work of the first phase is being carried out.
