The seven-day incidence in Berlin – starting from a still very high level – has recently fallen slightly. The reason for this is not clear. Nevertheless, the trend gives hope.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value on Wednesday morning as 1694.4, after 1761 the day before and 1821 on Monday. However, experts are currently assuming a high and increasing number of cases that are not recorded in the reporting data. The reasons are, among other things, the limited test capacities and the high burden on the health authorities.
“In my opinion, the hospital figures on normal wards are reliable where they are collected in real time,” explained the modeler Kai Nagel from the TU Berlin with a view to figures from the so-called Ivena system.
These are reported in the management report of the Berlin Senate. “Here the numbers continue to rise, even if – at least a glimmer of hope – the rate of increase has stabilized,” says the researcher.

Meanwhile, from February 7th, the so-called “test-to-stay” procedure (“test and stay in the daycare center”) will be introduced as a standard procedure in the Berlin daycare centers.
This makes it possible for children and employees to remain in the facility even if they have been identified as contact persons of a positive Covid 19 case in the daycare group.
The prerequisite is that the contact persons are symptom-free and have tested negative on the five following calendar days. This regulation also applies to vaccinated and recovered children.
