On Monday, Sebastién Haller completed his first team training session with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. The center forward should follow in Erling Haaland’s footsteps at BVB and become the club’s top scorer in the next four years. The fact that Haller ended up in Dortmund at all is partly due to another star in the black and yellow.
The 28-year-old played with Dortmund all-rounder Marius Wolf in the 2017/2018 season at Eintracht Frankfurt. From this time together, the two still appreciate each other and have kept in touch over the past few years.
Haller admitted in the BVB interview that Wolf made the move from Ajax Amsterdam to Westphalia palatable in advance: “He was a good mediator because he often sent me messages and we spoke a few times. I’m happy looking forward to seeing him and playing with him,” said the Ivorian international.
In the BVB jersey, Haller wants to build on the strong performances he has shown in recent years at Eintracht Frankfurt, West Ham United and Ajax Amsterdam. In the premier class in particular, the star striker stood out last season when he scored eleven goals in eight games for the Dutch record champions.
Haller debut for BVB on Thursday?
Back in the German Bundesliga, the top scorer is looking forward to the duels with BVB’s big rivals, FC Bayern.
“Of course, games against the reigning German champions Bayern Munich are something special. Of course we want to beat them,” Haller announced right away that he wanted to go into the encounters with the record champions with the appropriate self-confidence.
Next Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Borussia will have their next friendly game at SC Verl. Then Haller could go hunting for goals for BVB for the first time.
