This actor quits Jesus Christ Superstar due to a burnout

Freek Bartels has a burnout. He was actually supposed to play Judas in the new version of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, but he quit that role. The 36-year-old Tilburg citizen wants to focus entirely on his recovery, he reports in a press release.

“You want to be able to give everything for the role of Judas in this special project. At the moment, that is not possible physically and mentally and you have to be open and honest about that,” says Bartels.

The musical actor is very grateful for the understanding of the producers. He is replaced by Lucas Hamming. “I think it’s great that Lucas is going to take over the role from me,” Bartels concludes.

Recognition
Earlier this year, Freek Bartels received the Musical Award for best male lead. He received the award for his role of Javert in Les Misérables. In his short speech of thanks, he said that he sees the prize primarily as a recognition.
