The Ukrainian community in Ghent is in shock after the death of Matvii (5). During stormy weather last Thursday, a fallen branch landed on the playing boy. At the Ukrainian Saturday school, where Matvii romped every weekend, fun has made way for silence and sadness. “This tragedy could have been avoided,” says a mother at the school gate.
