S.to transpose true stories into a film is an art. In the obvious absence of a surprise ending, the director must make up for it with the mastery of the story. “Thirteen Lives ”, the plot follows the true story
In Thirteen livesthe true story and the plot of the film match. The narrative makes no concessions to fiction. We are in the north of Thailand, the 23 June 2018 twelve little boys of a local football team and their assistant coach decide to visit the Tham Luang cave which is located under a mountain called the Sleeping Lady. During the visit, monsoon rains flood the tunnels and 13 remain trapped in the darkness of the cave. As evidence of their entry, the bicycles left outside. As families bring offerings to the cave goddess, the Thai Navy Seals try to reach the boys and the coach. To leave us life in the first attempts to free them is Saman Kunan.
To join the volunteers, from the UK comes a team of divers which includes Rick Stanton (played by Viggo Mortensen) and John Volanthen (Colin Farrell). Also joining the group is Australian Dr. Richard “Harry” Harris (Joel Edgerton). The film follows the rescue made thanks to an intervention as unscrupulous as it is dangerous, which however became the last hope due to the drop in oxygen in the cave where the 13 missing have found refuge.

Ron Howard directed a top-notch group he saw work together with Thai actors, including some Hollywood newcomers, and international stars. Among these is the three-time Oscar nominee, Viggo Mortensenwho was Aragorn in the trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Also starring in the cast is Tom Bateman, recently seen in Murder on the Nile by Kenneth Branagh, and Paul Gleeson.

As a clumsy high school student in the series Happy DaysRon Howard has turned into a real-life director. From Apollo 13 onwards, he has never abandoned the vein of true stories brought to the big screen. In 2019 she also told the Pavarotti’s life in a documentary of the same name.
