Third suspect in murder case Enschedeër, owner Hoogeveen supermarket is still in custody

The police arrested a third suspect on Friday for the violent death of Jihad Jafo from Enschede. The 53-year-old man from the municipality of Twenterand has now been released. The 57-year-old man from Gronau, Germany, who was arrested earlier, is also a free man again. Only Hamid S. from Den Ham, who runs a halal store in Hoogeveen shopping center De Weide, is still in prison for the murder.

The body of 32-year-old Jafo from Enschede was found in May last year in the Almelo-De Haandrik Canal near Bruchterveld. The man had been missing since December 2021. RTV East reports that Jafo was active as a drug courier in the past. He would spend a lot of time in the nightlife of Gronau.

Jafo’s body had been weighted down with a 17-kilo tripod from a fire hose when it was found. Furthermore, the body was wrapped in a blanket when it was found in the canal. This was probably done by at least two people, the police previously reported.

Hamid S. was the first suspect arrested at the end of January for involvement in the death of Jafo. His supermarket in Hoogeveen was already searched in October. His home was also raided.

S. previously told his story at RTV Oost. He stated that Jafo was a good friend of his and that he was “in great pain” from his death.
