SpVgg Unterhaching takes over full responsibility for the cancellation of the third division game against FC Hansa Rostock. The game cannot take place as planned on Sunday. The sports park is closed due to security concerns.
“Pushing the black Peter onto the Rostock fans is not haching art,” said Unterhaching President Manfred Schwabl. “We were in constant exchange with the security authorities, but apparently it wasn’t enough and we have to take that on our cap.”
Hansa’s CEO Jürgen Wehlend had already emphasized the day before that there was no connection with the massive riots from last weekend in the game against Dynamo Dresden in the Baltic Sea Stadium.
“Perhaps it was also a bit because last weekend the game Rostock against Dresden was not necessarily a fame for football. That was certainly not positive for the evaluation, but it was not haching-style at all. We were on the train and no one else.”

Multiple request by the community
The DFB and FC Hansa had already announced in the course of the cancellation of the game on Sunday that the SpVgg had given a deadline to revise the submitted security concept. The club has been asked several times to revise the existing security concept, said Simon Hötzl, spokesman and economic officer of the municipality of Unterhaching, at NDR request.
“The demand to revise the existing security concept was already communicated to the organizer in the security meeting at the beginning of the current season (July 5, 2024), then in a specifically scheduled discussion with the community, organizer and police authorities on August 27, 2024,” said Hötzl.
In addition, the update was regularly referred to in the safety discussions accompanying the match day. “According to the experience of the first half of the season, we clearly made it clear to the organizer at the end of 2024 – based on a dedicated recommendation from the police authority – that no high -risk games can no longer take place in the Unterhaching sports park without an approved security concept.” The test procedure “takes a while. We also communicated that in advance.”
Last deadline expired on February 18
According to the municipality of Unterhaching, the last deadline for submitting the concept had expired on February 18, 2025. At this point, if the approval process was submitted in full, it could have been done and implemented just in time before the start of the risk game against FC Hansa, the spokesman continued: “After this last period, the organizer was listed formally on February 20 and announced that we intend to cancel the game against FC Hansa Rostock.” The notification of prohibition for the game was delivered on February 25th.
Schwabl: “Security is the highest good”
Schwabl showed himself up: “With regard to Rostock game, the security concept is now available. But the authorities said it was just too scarce. We have to put on the shoe ourselves.” According to the municipality, she received “extensive material” from the SpVgg Unterhaching on Wednesday.
He is fully behind the decision of the authorities, emphasized Schwabl: “We have a lot of families with children in the stadium. It is too hot for me, if you really lack a point where you say is dangerous. The security in the stadiums is the highest good and the most important thing, otherwise we can question the industry anyway.”
Haching – Dresden underpinned “necessity”
Also in Unterhaching had a risk game in Unterhaching that the game against Dresden was able to “take place” despite the security concerns “due to an individual decision, with the involvement of the police authorities and under conditions”, Hötzl. In retrospect, it was “very clear the need to determine standardized processes and processes in a security concept”.
The games in January with a lower safety classification were also played on the basis of individual cases. This could also apply to Verl for the upcoming home game on March 11, which is not a risk game.
DFB and FC Hansa check consequences
It is now unclear what consequences the occurrences for the bottom of the table from Bavaria and the evaluation of the game will have. The DFB has already announced that the processes “led to the surprising blocking of the sports park by the community” and to examine possible consequences intensively. The FCH also checked the legal situation “to safeguard its interests”, according to the Mecklenburger.
