Düsseldorf (AP) – Football teacher Daniel Thioune has started work at Fortuna Düsseldorf. A day after his introduction as the new coach of the second division, the 47-year-old successor to Christian Preusser led his first training session at his new place of work.
Thioune was also able to welcome Adam Bodzek to the 92-minute session, for whom a two-month forced break came to an end. The 36-year-old team captain suffered several broken ribs when his team was 3-1 in Darmstadt in early December 2021.
Thioune was back in a responsible position on the pitch for the first time since his release from Hamburger SV in May 2021. His contract at Table 16. is dated June 30, 2023. The former second division professional should stop the sporting descent with just one win from eleven competitive games and save the former Bundesliga club from relegation. Thioune will play his first game on the Fortuna bench on February 13 (1.30 p.m. / Sky) against FC Schalke 04, who was in good form recently.
