Oliver Helander was close to getting injured in gym training.
The javelin thrower posted a video on Instagram in which he does a weightlifting exercise, but the performance goes dangerously wrong.
Helander didn’t get properly under the plate bar when he lifted it to his straight hands. So the thrower’s balance failed and the bar fell on his neck.
Based on the video, the bar weighed about one hundred kilograms.
Helander himself treated the situation with humor.
– I tried this new neck movement. It worked well, he wrote, followed by a thumbs-up emoji.
Followers of Suomalaintahte were shocked by the video.
– Are you okay? Pakistani spear colleague Yasir Sultan asked.
– Hell no when the chills went away. There were ingredients for anything. Are you healthy? What hurt you the most? Athletics national team bodyguard Pentti Niemi horrified.
Norwegian javelin legend Andreas Thorkildsen focused not so much on Helander’s failed lift, but on the person using the pectoral device in the background.
– I love that guy on the pec deckhe doesn’t give a shit, Thorkildsen laughed.
