In a bolt from the blue, Thijs Römer has chosen not to appeal against his prison sentence. “One problem: the prisons are full.”
Because of his rare raunchy behavior – he abused three underage girls online – Thijs Römer was sentenced to one month in prison, and another two if he goes wrong again. He also has to hoe somewhere for 240 hours. The fallen actor initially decided to appeal, but he has now decided not to do so.
Thijs responds
After almost eight months, Thijs has made the decision: he is sitting down. “I realize that the events have had a major impact on the victims and that only one person is responsible: myself. I was not able to properly express this insight during the hearing last summer.”
He continues: “I can now only ‘prove’ the sincerity and value of this realization by accepting the court sentence and therefore not continuing with the appeal I have filed. I hope this will bring peace to the lives of everyone involved.”
Feels a shower
Yvonne Coldeweijer knows why Thijs chooses to growl. She believes that he would have received an even longer prison sentence on appeal. “According to opinion, this was much too low, so Thijs is already feeling the mood and is choosing his money’s worth,” she writes on her juicechannel.
How does she read his statement that he wants to show his sincerity by going to jail? “Bullshit. Is just afraid of a higher punishment.”
Prison full
Criminal defense attorney Clarice Stenger sets RTL Boulevard that it is not the case that Thijs will go to jail tomorrow. According to her, there are no cells available. “He will receive a notice to go to prison. The prisons in the Netherlands are quite full, so that could take a while. So that is also something that continues to hang over his head.”
Thijs will now have to wait until he can go to jail, Clarice decides. “You can’t report right away and have them take you in right away, so to speak. You won’t be put in jail right away. That can really take a while. That still lies ahead for him, but he will have to sit out that month.”
