Thiele wins bronze at the end of his career

Rower Annekatrin Thiele has completed her successful career with another medal. The Rio Olympic champion and two-time world champion in quadruple sculls won one bronze at the German championships on Saturday. As part of the “Finals” in Berlin, the 37-year-old narrowly beat Nora Peuser in the B final.

“I’ve found that after 20 years of competitive sport, an end must be found. I’m no longer willing to torture myself mentally,” said Thiele on ARD. Sarah Wibberenz became German champion over the rather unusual 350 m sprint distance ahead of Lisa Gutfleisch.

Torben Johannesen and Wolf‐Niclas Schröder won in the men’s twos ahead of Laurits Follert and Julian Garth. Mattes Schönherr and Olaf Roggensack won the B final for bronze.
