Thief who cut meal deliverer’s hand identified thanks to investigative report FAROEK | Farouk

The thief who stabbed a meal deliverer in the hand with a knife in the center of Antwerp on May 3 has been identified. The young man stole a pair of shoes and then fled. When a meal deliverer tried to stop him, he pulled a knife. It is thanks to a report in the FAROEK investigation program that investigators were now able to identify the suspect.

Meal deliverer Idrissi (19) testified in FAROEK about what he saw on May 3 at the entrance to the Opera metro station on Teniersplaats in the center of Antwerp. “I saw a skirmish between a man and a boy,” he says. “At one point the boy pulled a knife. I then tried to take the knife away.” But that went wrong. The young man cut Idrissi’s hand and fled.

Moments before the stabbing, the young man had stolen a pair of shoes. The store employee chased the thief for a while, but lost him near the Meir. The store employee’s cousin happened to be in the area with his scooter. He went looking for the suspect and found him at the metro station on Teniersplaats. He wanted to stop the thief there, but he pulled a knife.

Surveillance footage

During their investigation, investigators found several surveillance images showing the suspect. For example, they know that the young man took the train from Brussels North to Antwerp at 3 p.m. and arrived there half an hour later. After the theft and stabbing, the suspect left the knife at the intersection of Lange Nieuwstraat and Christusstraat. Afterwards he hung around in Antwerp for a long time. He was last seen around 5:45 p.m. in Sint-Paulusstraat.

The surveillance images of the theft and the stabbing were distributed on Sunday in an investigative report by FAROEK. The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office confirms that the suspect could be identified thanks to the report.
