Midfielders Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho are part of Liverpool’s squad for Saturday’s Champions League final in Paris against Real Madrid. Both Thiago and Fabinho have almost recovered from a muscle injury. Earlier this week it appeared that Virgil van Dijk will return to the selection of trainer Jürgen Klopp after two weeks of absence due to knee complaints.
The Orange captain was injured during the FA Cup final against Chelsea, which Liverpool won via penalties. Brazilian midfielder Fabinho had already been injured against Aston Villa a few days earlier. Klopp saw Thiago retire shortly before half-time in the last league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers (3-1). The Spanish international was soon able to resume training.
Liverpool also won the League Cup this season in addition to the FA Cup. In the Premier League, the ‘Reds’ finished second to Manchester City by 1 point.
