“They were blows as if they were under construction”

“They were blows as if they were under construction.” Shocking words spoken by a neighbor of Dolores Vázquez, who is being tried along with her sister, Pilar, and her partner, Isaac Gil, for the crime of Pedro Fernández on the night of Friday, July 9 to Saturday, 10, 2021 in Sabadell . This witness corroborated the version offered minutes before by his then girlfriend, who had stated: “It was as if they were breaking bricks,” he said. Both saw through the peephole in the door of their houses how Isaac was cleaning the landing of the property where the victim fell. round after receiving, according to the accusation, “multiple” hits with a metal bar (a goat’s leg). The police who arrived at the scene when notified by these neighbors explained how Dolores resisted them entering the house and that when they entered they found the lifeless body wrapped in a blanket.

Dolores’ two neighbors explained that they were at her house and heard loud bangs on the landing. They went to the door and looked through the peephole. “I only heard knocks, knocks and saw pieces passing in front of my door (…) I thought they were bursting a wall or a door,” the man declared. The woman specified: “It was like sand jumping, I thought they were chunks, then I knew they were Mr. Pedro’s chunks.” They both opened the door and the woman’s daughter screamed, “Mom, mom, there’s blood.” They closed it and through the peephole they saw the twins and Isaac cleaning the floor. Proof of this scene are the videos recorded by other neighbors also through the door peephole. In one of these recordings, the defendant is even seen placing his foot on the victim’s chest and making a small jump to cross to the other side, supposedly to make sure that Pedro was already dead.

Everything full of blood

When 112 received the call from these two neighbors who had hated “hammer blows”, a Mossos patrol arrived at the property. They thought it could be a robbery or an occupation. But when they entered the property, they found Isaac on the third floor scrubbing the floor and “the ceiling, walls and floor covered in blood,” the agents have testified. Isaac was also stained with blood, but had no injuries.

When they came across that scene, they asked the defendant what had happened and he explained to them that a neighbor had fallen. The supposedly injured neighbor, according to what Isaac told them, was upstairs, on the fourth floor. Upon arriving at Dolores’ home, where minutes before and in the bedroom Isaac had started hitting Pedro, the police knocked on the door. Dolores, who was accompanied by her sister Pilar de ella, resisted opening the door, the agents said.

“Police open me, police open me. I knocked on the door several times,” one of the police officers stressed. “I had to bang on the door quite a bit,” he clarified. In the end, one of the twins opened the door a crack and one of the police grabbed her with one hand. At first, Pilar pretended to be asleep in a small room. Later, when questioned about what had happened, the two twins not only pointed towards the door, where Isaac was, but they asked: “What is going to happen to us?” When the police entered Dolores’ home, they found Pedro’s lifeless body wrapped in a blanket. Isaac ended up confessing what happened to the agents, “spontaneously.” “He spoke to us calmly,” stressed one of the police officers.

One of the police officers who was in charge of the investigation assured in the trial that months before the crime, on March 3, 2021, a neighbor alerted them that they had heard noise at Dolores’ home. Police officers showed up at the house to calm down and find out what was happening. No arrest was made then. Four months later, Pedro, Dolores’ partner, was murdered in the building.
