In a recent interview, Iggy Pop opened up about his difficult relationship with the Grammy Awards and the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors outstanding musicians.

Last Friday (January 6th) the singer released his new solo album “EVERY LOSER”, the single releases “Frenzy” and “Strung Out Johnny” provided a foretaste. The work features contributions from a number of big names, including Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in March, also contributed to it.

“Without you there would be no Lil Nas X and no Billie Eilish”

In 2020, Pop was among the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, but admitted he initially couldn’t decide whether to accept the award. He told Classic Rock, “The Grammys kept asking me on the phone and I kept saying to my manager, ‘I don’t want to talk to them. I hate these people. They want me to be an exhibit in their museum or something.’ When I finally spoke to the lady from the Grammys a few months later, she said, “We’re giving you the lifetime achievement award. Without you there would be no Lil Nas X and no Billie Eilish.’” He continued, “She said, ‘You are a direct connection to the artists who are at the top of our awards list this year.’ So that’s what this one person had to say and I take that for exactly what it’s worth.”
