The Meilandjes are more than tired of the massive criticism of their Chateau Assistance program. Erica Meiland jumped in the breach for her criticized daughter Maxime yesterday, but it doesn’t stop there. She posts one response after another on Twitter to comments from viewers she says don’t understand.

‘It’s going too far for me’

Erica thinks that some viewers are very stupid, she says on Radio 538† “I’ve given some comments in the past few days, which I never actually do, but there are such stupid things in it. That people just don’t listen in the program how it really is.”

She especially gets a lot of reactions from viewers who state that they do not live on welfare level at all. “Then they think that we are renting 288 euros per month, but that is per week. I can’t resist such things and then I gave a neat response how it is. That is really going too far for me.”

‘We don’t laugh about it!’

What does Erica think of the criticism that they make fun of a life on welfare? “Yes, but listen, we don’t laugh about people on welfare, do we? People laugh at us, but we draw attention to the people who have to live on a minimum wage. How is that, how is that going, the shame has to go.”

“Laughing at poverty: of course not, how do you get it? If it’s laughed at, it’s about Martien and because he handles the situation so crazy, you know. That’s the bit of entertainment that’s in it. We are also committed to charity, just like the Frogertjes and the Roelvinkjes in the past. No, that’s just nonsense.”

Twitter

Erica mainly watches the reactions on Twitter. “Of course I look at all that on Twitter, although it is of course mainly negative there, but that is always with Twitter. Our own fans are more on Facebook and there are plenty of people who enjoy it.”
