The authorities found the bodies after neighbors reported the stench given off by a house in Jutiapa, in the east of the country.
At least seven members of a family were located lifeless at his home in Guatemala by agents of the Public Ministry (MP, Prosecutor’s Office), who continue processing the scene in search of establishing the causes of death. The discovery took place in the department (province) of Jutiapa, about 160 kilometers from Guatemala City, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
National Police agents found seven bodies in a building at 2:30 p.m. local time (10:00 GMT). Neighbors alerted authorities due to a foul odor that emanated from the house. The Public Ministry preliminarily reported that among the deceased are women, men and children. The bodies were in a state of decomposition and the cause of death has not yet been made official.
In the department of Jutiapa where the victims were found, it has been reported an average of 5 homicides monthly from January to September 2022, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics of the Central American country. In addition, in Guatemala at least 2,100 people were murdered in the first nine months of 2022, according to the same source.
Tonight the Prosecutor’s Office continues the proceedings at the scene in search of more evidence about what happened.
