Do you still remember these wonderful outfits from the reception of last years’ Linna party?
The people of Finland will once again be able to witness from the sofa at home what kind of sparkling party fashion will be seen at the Independence Day reception at the Presidential Palace. The 2023 party will be the last hosted by President Niinistö and Mrs. Jenni Haukio, and will be remembered for that reason as well.

We tuned in to the atmosphere by collecting the most exciting fashion experiences of Linna’s parties from the past years.
See the pictures:
Mrs. Jenni Haukio is naturally one of the most watched party guests of the evening. Her light, timeless evening dress in 2018 was a fashion design student at Aalto University at the time Emma Saarnion handwriting. It was made of a surprising material: Finnish birch was used in the fiber of the suit’s ioncell fabric. Instead, the fabric was designed by a student of Aalto University’s textile design department at the time Helmi Liikanen.
Ballet dancer Atte Kilpinen’s shock pink tailcoat was definitely the most arresting outfit choice and topic of conversation among the party guests last year. It was the handiwork of fashion designer Teemu Muurimäki and suited the dancer perfectly. Street-credible patent leather shoes finished off the outfit with a touch of gruff attitude. Kilpinen’s coat choice for the freezing December night was a plush, black faux fur coat.
Former Prime Minister Sanna Marini’s beautiful white evening dress was one of the most successful clothing choices of 2022. The satin dress was designer Sari Hörkön handwriting. The silver jewelry that completed the beautiful outfit was from the domestic jewelry brands Kalevala Jewelry and Lumoava.
Runner Nooralotta Neziri beamed at Linna’s party in 2016 in a pink, asymmetrical, pleated satin evening dress. The two-piece suit was designed by the standard designer of many of the guests at Linna’s parties Katri Niskanen.
Former Member of Parliament Jaana Pelkonen has been one of the most anticipated guests year after year and she did not disappoint in 2018 either. At that time, Pelkonen had chosen an elegant bright yellow satin evening dress by the French fashion designer Roland Mouret. The party outfit crowned the Finnish body designer Päivi Keski-Pompu designed golden, unique earrings and a bracelet. Jewelry came into its own especially with an evening dress that exposed the shoulders.
Musician Robin’s black suit in 2016 stood out from the party crowd. It was decorated with golden rivets and fashion designer Mert Otsamo was behind it. The Piikki brooches attached throughout the outfit were designed by Otsamo for the Invalidiliito.
Former Member of Parliament and entrepreneur Leena Harkimo enjoyed the looser dress code of 2013, when the party was exceptionally organized at Tampere-talo. Fashion designer Teemu Muurimäki’s blue, shimmering sequin jumpsuit had a disco spirit and stood out from the rest of the party guests with its playfulness.
Musician Paula Vesala’s dark evening dress at last year’s reception was an extremely stylish choice. The floor-length sleeves and the open cut of the back brought interesting details to the skin-hugging dress. The musician’s simple bun hairstyle and restrained Smokey eye eye make-up emphasized Katri Niskanen designed dress, because this way the attention was focused on a streamlined evening dress. Vesala had reduced ears Päivi Keski-Pompu designed stud earrings made from recycled silver.
MEP and former Member of Parliament Pirkko Ruohonen-Lerner chose a narrow, close-fitting evening dress for the 2013 party held at Tampere-talo. The strapless, black model borrowed the design language from the side of men’s suits, and its manhood was decorated with a spectacular golden double-breasted jacket.
Fashion designer Emma Saarnio was responsible for Mrs. Jenni Haukio’s costume in 2018, but in 2019 she shined in Linna herself as a party guest. At the time, Saarnio represented the Italian luxury fashion house Valentino in an orange ruffled evening dress.
MP Kike Elomaa represented the 2011 Linna party in an off-white, one-shoulder evening dress. The timeless, figure-hugging outfit was designed by a Turku fashion designer Jaana Varkki. Elomaa paired her patriotic outfit with a sky blue satin party bag.
The party style of Jitka Nováčková, the wife of former national team captain and football player Tim Sparv, miss and model, has risen to the top of the lists of best-dressed party guests year after year for no reason. Her strapless, two-tone evening dress charmed at last year’s Linna party. The black-and-pink dress was simple elegant from the front, but the juju of the dress can be found at the back: a showy and generous bow. The charming dress reminded me of Audrey Hepburn, the favorite of the silver screens, and old-time Hollywood glamour.
Spouse of the late MP Ilkka Kanerva Elina Kiikko-Kanervan the choice of evening dress for Linna’s party has hit the nail on the head year after year. In 2012, he represented a Finnish fashion designer at the Independence Day reception Jaana Varkin in a white creation whose beautifully flowing fashion language brings to mind Greek goddesses.
