Brad Pitt and Nick Cave have made their debut as visual artists in a Finnish museum. The works of the two are part of a larger exhibition by the British artist Thomas Houseago. At the vernissage on Saturday (September 17), Pitt explained that it was a new world for Cave and him. Both personally attended the opening ceremony.

The Devil’s Life & the Breakup of a Marriage

Nick Cave is presenting his ceramic works to the public for the first time: 17 hand-painted figures by the Australian can be seen, which are intended to depict the devil’s life in 17 stations. Brad Pitt exhibits a total of 9 works; including a plasterboard meant to depict a gunfight. The actor also shows a series of house-shaped silicone models, each shot with a different type of ammunition.

“For me it’s about self-reflection,” said the 58-year-old, and he became even more specific: “It’s about where I did something wrong in my relationships, where I made a mistake.” The sculptures are the result of a ” radical inventory of the self,” says Pitt. It was about “being really brutally honest with me”. After his divorce from actress Angelina Jolie, the American is said to have thrown himself into the visual arts. As The Guardian reported, he spent up to 15 hours a day in Thomas Houseago’s Los Angeles studio in 2017.

The exhibition entitled “Thomas Houseago – WE with Nick Cave and Brad Pitt” can be visited until January 15th. The Sara Hildén Art Museum is located in Tampere in south-west Finland.
