The recognition came late, but lasting: In 1998, Lucinda Williams became known with the album “Car Wheels On A Gravel Road”, a masterpiece of Americana songwriting. But Williams, born in Louisiana as the daughter of writer and lecturer Miller Williams, released her first album in 1979. After a long break, the highly acclaimed albums “Lucinda Williams” (1988) and “Sweet Old World” (1992) were released. Tom Petty and the Silos recorded versions of their song “Changed The Locks”.

After winning a Grammy for “Car Wheels…”, Lucinda Williams toured with Bob Dylan, releasing “Essence” (2001) and “World Without Tears” (2003). A live record with a concert at the Fillmore East and most recently the double album The Ghosts Of Highway 20 (2016) confirmed her status as the brightest country folk songwriter of her generation. Most recently, Williams released the Stones tribute You Are Cordially Invited… (2022).

We feature videos that are most popular with Lucinda Williams fans

“dust”

Lucinda Williams only makes select clips available on YouTube – one of which is the video for the song “Dust” found on the 2016 album The Ghosts of Highway 20. Peter Castagnetti directed this intimate look into the songwriter’s studio atmosphere.

“West Memphis”

Also worth seeing: the black and white clip for the song “West Memphis”. It shows Lucinda Williams and band in the studio again. The song is included on the double album Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone, released in 2014.

Behind The Scenes on Studio Recordings of “West”

In 2007, Lucinda Williams released the album West. Here, too, she allowed herself to be accompanied while working with the camera. This is how exclusive “Behind The Scenes” recordings were created, which – here underlined with the opener track “Are You Alright?” – show the musical work of the versatile artist in the studio.
