These seven brave friends saved an elderly couple from dying in flames

What a strong squad! On the way home from the disco, these seven young people rescued an elderly couple from their burning house in Lüdersdorf (Teltow-Fläming).

The friends meet for Walpurgis Night in Trebbin and drive home in two cars at 2 a.m.

Then the rescue drama: When Phillip Worch (19) passed the Lüdersdorf town sign in his Clio, he discovered the fire: “I saw flames hitting a window, I immediately went to the irons,” he tells the BZ

The friends jump out of the car. “We yelled loudly, banged on the door and window with full force and shouted, ‘Come out. It’s on fire.’” Gina-Marie Kropke (20) dials 112. Jonas Werner (20), who is also a member of the Sperenberg volunteer fire brigade, counts: one, two, three – then they kick in the door.

Inside, only the floor is free of smoke. Jonas: “We took cushions from a bench in front of the house and put them in front of our mouths. Because I heard voices, I crawled into the house under the smoke.”

Norman Mulka (22) follows. They meet the couple in the bedroom. First they bring Dieter L. (81) out, then his wife Sabine (77). The girls fetch water and lovingly look after the elderly couple.

With a garden hose and buckets of water, the brave friends try to put out the fire until the volunteer fire brigade arrives. The house burns down anyway. When Martina L., the couple’s daughter, arrives at the scene of the accident, she kisses every rescuer as a thank you.

“This is my parents’ house. Now there’s nothing left, our whole life, all memories, not a snippet is left. All the photos from my childhood, all the memories are burned,” she says. “But if it wasn’t for the boys and girls, we could have buried my parents. I am so grateful to everyone.”
