Matches were made, relationships formed and hearts broken. Viewers of MAFS can look back on an exciting season with more than enough drama to feed on before an eventual next season kicks off. But which relationships survived the test?
These MAFS couples are still together
The experts of the program were not very successful in recent years. Few good matches were produced. This time they changed that. For the first time in years, not only divorces have been filed.
Sonny and Dylan
Ah, Sonny and Dylan. A more beautiful love story in the history of MAFS probably doesn’t exist. Two young men who immediately click with each other and have not let go of each other since the word of yes: it is a true fairy tale. The successful couple spends a lot of time together and is madly in love. And as Dylan said in the last episodes, “I’ve never been happier.”
Rowan and Astleigh 
Another dream couple and a real one match made in heaven. As a viewer, you probably remember their wedding day. Astleigh, smiling from ear to ear as he sees whom he pledges eternal loyalty. And then Rowan, the giggling blonde who falls in love with her husband.
They are even doing so well that Rowan has packed her things (and rabbit!) to move in with Astleigh in Zoetermeer. There they recently got the fright of their lives when a fire broke out at night. “We’ve been really lucky,” says Astleigh this video†
There were rumors of a breakup for a while, but now the couple is busy renovating their love nest. Rowan even dares to talk about her future plans: in a few years she would like to start a family with Astleigh. What a wonderful love happiness.
These MAFS couples are no longer together
On paper it can match so well, but then Cupid has to hit the mark in practice. That didn’t work with the following couples who came through Married at first sight the true hoped to find.
Maurice and Dennis 
Married at first sight quickly became for Arjan and Maurice divorced at first sight. Shortly after the yes, Maurice left on his own for a honeymoon to Portugal. With his soul under his arm, he returned to the Netherlands where the experts matched him with three other men.
Dennis was immediately hit: Maurice fell head over heels in love with him and even took him to the couples weekend. Yet for Dennis the spark never really flew. He did not fall in love, the distance between him and Maurice grew and in the end, despite the beautiful last episode of the program, they ended their relationship.
Undoubtedly a big shock to many fans. It looked like love was really blossoming between the two, but it turned out to be a television fairy tale.
Astrid and Sander 
Oh well, if you do give love to one couple… But yes, those butterflies will have to come. The romantic click between Astrid and Sander failed to materialize, after which he unceremoniously dumped her over the phone. A bitter pill for Astrid, who wanted to give love another chance.
The unexpected divorce moved her to tears, but the adventure has also brought her something beautiful: she is open to love again. Astrid says she has enough friends in her life, so contact with Sander is no longer possible after the brutal break.
Caroline and Joep 
Whether it’s his age or his inexperience: your heart breaks for Caroline because of the way Joep treated her. After a romantic honeymoon, he turns out to have no feelings for her, while her first butterflies flutter. With pain and difficulty he says ‘yes’ to living together, but it soon becomes apparent that Joep does not feel like it at all. Instead of spending time with his new wife, he prefers to go to work.
It was therefore no surprise that their love story broke apart and the divorce was filed. Caroline kept the door ajar for Joep for a long time, but he slammed the proverbial door shut in her face.
Kim and Antoine 
If something seems too good to be true, it often is. That also applies to Kim and Antoine. Their wedding day is fantastic, it clicks at first and about the chemistry… well, nobody has to worry about that. But the first cracks appear on the honeymoon. They don’t have glue with them, after which the cracks seem irreparable.
Kim still has a lot to process. The loss of her ‘Tenerife mother’ and her boyfriend: in Antoine’s arms it all becomes too much. To make matters worse, his jokes turn out not to be all that funny. Despite frantic attempts by (s) expert Eveline to help the couple save their marriage, it ends in the Netherlands for good.
Birgitte and Jan 
Every season there must be a couple that you have doubts. With whom you already know before the yes that it will rub. This year, that task is reserved for Jan and Birgitte. They want so badly to find a partner for life, but love does not arise.
Birgitte makes desperate attempts to get any feeling out of Jan, but he closes like an oyster during the recordings. It doesn’t take long before Birgitte discovers that he isn’t for her, while Jan in turn likes it.
Even before living together, it is already clear that this couple is heading for a divorce. They do not spend the couples weekend in one bedroom and well, there is still no real talk. Not surprisingly, they have had little or no contact since the experiment.
