These are the thirteen dropouts of Orange for the World Cup | World Cup 2022

National coach Louis van Gaal has announced bad news to thirteen players before announcing his final selection for the World Cup. From Jasper Cillessen to Arnaut Danjuma: these are the last dropouts in the selection of the Dutch national team.

The biggest surprise was losing weight Jasper Cillessen. The goalkeeper was the first goalkeeper under Van Gaal during the 2014 World Cup and was first choice in the decisive international matches for World Cup qualification last year, but ultimately did not make the final selection to his great frustration. Mark Flek also does not belong to the 26-strong squad.

In front of Horace Danjuma the curtain fell as well. The Villarreal attacker has been back to normal in recent weeks after a long injury, but has not been able to convince the national coach enough since his return. Ajax striker Brian Brobbey also died at the last minute. On the other hand, Besiktas striker Wout Weghorst received good news.

Because Van Gaal chooses to include Jeremie Frimpong in the selection for the first time as a competitor of Denzel Dumfries, he has no place left for Ajax Devyne Rensch. Also Micky van de Ven (VfL Wolfsburg), Pascal Struijk (Leeds United) and Sven Botman (Newcastle United) don’t get on the plane to Qatar.

Bad news conversation

Mitchell Bakker (Bayer Leverkusen), Donyell Malen (Borussia Dortmund), Gus Til (PSV), Jordy Clasie (AZ) and Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich) also had a bad news conversation with Van Gaal this morning. They were ultimately found to be too light or did not act enough to secure a place in the final group.
