The Peter Bosz era finally started this week in Eindhoven. The brand new head coach is going on a hunt for prizes and Champions League football with PSV. During his presentation, he addressed the question of why he fits the Eindhoven club and how he wants to apply his playing style. Technical director Earnest Stewart further explained the choice for the coach.
After the unexpected departure of Ruud van Nistelrooij, technical director Earnest Stewart had to switch gears. He had to list what exactly he expected from a trainer and what he had noticed in his first months.
“I started thinking about what I wanted with PSV. What course do we want to take and what suits PSV. In the past the club was able to switch great, but if you want to win you also have to be able to play dominant football. Then Peter Bosz is the most logical choice in my opinion.”
“I like a coach with a vision who doesn’t throw everything overboard after four defeats.”
So a small cultural change at PSV. After many years with young trainers, Phillip Cocu, Mark van Bommel and Ruud van Nistelrooij, an experienced man with a vision has now arrived. The young trainers chose to play football from the base. Peter Bosz wants to attack with attractive football.
“Nevertheless, this choice is based on continuity. I think that’s the most important thing in a club. I like a trainer with a vision who doesn’t throw everything overboard after four defeats”, Stewart explains his choice one more time. The choice is also based on last season’s losses against smaller opponents. PSV could not play dominant football in that, something that should change next season under the new head coach.
“The club and I have won few trophies in recent years.”
Peter Bosz himself sees many similarities between the club and himself. “We have both won few awards in recent years. We share that ambition. I attach great importance to winning a prize, that chance is greater at a top club like PSV. So this unites us.”
The trainer, who has just lived in Eindhoven for two days, signed for three years, which seems to guarantee Stewart’s desired continuity. Now it is important for Bosz to apply his playing style as quickly as possible, because the Johan Cruijff Scale and the preliminary rounds of the Champions League are awaiting in a month. Does he have enough time?
“Nowadays I can easily make concessions to my way of playing to achieve the desired result.”
“That is different at every club. In Israel, the players figured it out after two weeks, but at another club it took longer. We will have to apply it step by step, I have learned that in recent years. Nowadays I can easily make concessions to my way of playing to achieve the desired result.”
It remains for the head coach to wait until his selection is final. That is the job of the technical director. “We have a lot of contact about that”, the gentlemen confirm. What was also confirmed by the technical director is that Noa Lang has been spoken to. The Club Brugge attacker must become a reinforcement in addition to Ricardo Pepi, who was medically examined on Tuesday.
Until then, Peter Bosz will keep banging on Stewart’s door to ask how things are going and will start his journey towards a first prize and Champions League football with the first training on Tuesday.
