The games for the first round of the DFB Cup were drawn on Sunday. There are attractive tasks for Hertha, Union and TuS Makkabi.
Berlin’s state cup winners TuS Makkabi will face VfL Wolfsburg in the first round of the DFB Cup. The upper league football team was drawn to Lower Saxony and their Berlin-born coach Niko Kovac on Sunday.
“I can live with that,” was the short comment from Maccabi coach Wolfgang Sandhowe in the ZDF broadcast of the lottery ceremony from the German Football Museum in Dortmund. Sandhowe had previously wanted Hertha BSC as a competitor.
Instead, the Berlin Bundesliga relegated travels in the first round of the cup to the explosive duel with the regional league club Carl Zeiss Jena. This season, Hertha failed in the first round at Eintracht Braunschweig. Union Berlin was drawn to the Baden-Württemberg regional league team FC Astoria Walldorf. The Irons are of course the clear favorite as Champions League participants.
Brandenburg’s state cup winner, Energie Cottbus, who, like all those who took part in the first round, will receive almost 210,000 euros as a starting bonus, will play against the second division club SC Paderborn in the Stadion der Hoffnung. The first round of the cup will be played from August 11th to 14th. The next DFB Cup winner will be chosen in the final on May 25, 2024 in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium.
DFB Cup, 1st round: More encounters
Record winner FC Bayern Munich has to compete in the first round of the DFB Cup with third-division promoted Preußen Münster. That was the result of the draw on Sunday. Cup defender RB Leipzig is a guest at the start of the new cup season at second division promoted SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Vice-champion Borussia Dortmund has to deal with regional league newcomer Schott Mainz.
Pole vaulter Sarah Vogel also drew other interesting encounters. So Eintracht Frankfurt is required at 1. FC Lok Leipzig from the fourth division.
Because the DFL Supercup between RB Leipzig and FC Bayern is being held at the same time, the encounters between the cup winner and the champion will only take place on 26/27. held in September.
