The crazy story about Miss Sophie, Mr. Winterbottom, Mr. Pommeroy, Admiral von Schneider and Sir Toby can also be watched online at any time. In the ARD media library the sketch is available on demand. The program was recorded with the British humorist Freddie Frinton and his actress colleague May Warden in May 1963 – 60 years ago. Filming took place in the legendary Studio B at NDR in Hamburg. In 1972, “Dinner for One” was broadcast for the first time on New Year’s Eve.

Since then, the 18-minute sketch about Butler James and Miss Sophie has become just as much a part of New Year’s Eve for many people as lead pouring, champagne and fireworks. So it is hardly surprising that “Dinner for One” is now also available in Low German and Hessian versions, among others.
