The German basketball players have played a successful European Championship so far. Germany is already qualified for the round of 16.
Even before the last group game this Wednesday evening against host Finland (7.30 p.m. in the live ticker near T-Online), the German national basketball team qualified for the round of 16 at the European Championship. This starts on September 6th in the Latvian capital Riga. Who are the potential opponents of Germany?
This depends above all on the game of the German team on Wednesday evening. With the fifth victory in the fifth game, the DBB selection would be group winners, in the event of a defeat and a victory of Lithuania against Sweden, even the fall to three would threaten. That is why the duel against the Finns – although Germany is already qualified for the round of the last 16 teams – has a sporty explosiveness.
One thing is clear: the German national team meets an opponent of group A in the round of 16. Turkey, Serbia, Latvia, Estonia, Portugal and the Czech Republic play there. If Germany wins against Finland and becomes a group winner, the team of the sick coach Álex Mumbrú meets the group A. that would be – now – Estonia. The Estonians play against Portugal on Wednesday (1.45 p.m.). If the Portuguese win the game, the German selection would hit Portugal if the group was victory. In a victory in Estonia, the Estonians would be the next opponent.
But what happens if Germany loses against Finland? Then the DDB team would either complete the group phase as second or third-depending on whether Lithuania wins the game. If Germany becomes second, the team will meet the third in group A. In third place for Germany, the second of the second from group A. Turkey, Serbia or Latvia would be an option. So it is clear that in order to catch the possible “light” opponent, Germany should also win the game against Finland.
