There will be no fence along the Zeeweg and they think that is ‘crazy’ in Zandvoort

Zandvoort councilor Lars Carree will discuss a new fence along the Zeeweg with (interim) mayor of Bloemendaal, Ankie Broekers-Knol, at the end of November. He promised the council this on Monday evening in response to the motion ‘It looks like fencing’ by Zandvoort Echt Een (ZEE).

ZEE councilor Mirko Gerrits pointed out to the councilor that the Bloemendaal council has allocated 1.1 million euros for the construction of a new fence. has withdrawn. He wants the council to continue to actively promote the construction or improvement of the fence.

“Because as far as we are concerned it is madness, or ‘fencing’, that we leave it in this state. With the number of accidents that happen there and also the chance of a potentially fatal accident, which of course we should not all want “, says Gerrits.

Accidents with deer

Because the fencing along the Zeeweg is (partly) in poor condition, deer regularly jump over it and then run across the Zeeweg. Resulting in collisions with cars.

Zandvoort resident and ‘deer whisperer’ Willem van der Sloot reacted sadly to the action of the municipality of Bloemendaal. He has been fighting for a new fence for years. Because not all parties involved (PWN, Staatsbosbeheer and the province, ed.) want to contribute to the 1.1 million euros, the amount has been withdrawn by Bloemendaal. The municipality does not want to cough up the money alone.

Conversation between Zandvoort and Bloemendaal

Zandvoort wanted to contribute 20,000 euros to finance part of the research into a new fence. Many villagers use the Zeeweg every day. The 20,000 euros will remain, according to councilor Carree. “We also had to hear about Bloemendaal’s decision from the regional media. That is why I will have a meeting with the Bloemendaal mayor on November 27 to discuss this further.”

“We have already actively and frequently raised this issue with various parties. I do that and I will continue to do so. But the land belongs to the municipality of Bloemendaal,” says Carree. After this promise, a satisfied Gerrits withdrew the motion.
