The transport giant has equipped 7 trucks, 3 of which from Esselunga, to bring basic necessities to the borders of Ukraine and collect refugees. Laura Bertulessi, team principal of the Moto2 team has decided to repeat the expedition, which starts on Saturday 12 from the Udine stadium: “It is open to anyone who wants to help: the situation there is dramatic especially for the children”
Always on the front line. Remember when at the outbreak of the pandemic, in collaboration with Le Iene, Italtrans transported hundreds of computers, iPads and other technological material by truck from Bergamo to Palermo to be allocated to the students of the ZEN district? Well, even the Ukrainian crisis, following the war unleashed by Russia, saw the food transport giant protagonist in the humanitarian emergency. On an initiative started by Ismaele La Vardera, the Hyena who already in 2020 had contacted the Bellina family, owner of Italtrans, a few days ago, 7 trucks, of which 3 made available by Esselunga, left Calcinate to transport up to on the border with Ukraine 200 pallets of basic necessities (food, medicine, clothing, …) donated by employees, individuals, local businesses as well as by various brands (Esselunga, Iperal, Conad, Acqua Sant’Anna, Loacker, Barilla, Pata).
refugees helped

On their return, 55 refugees found space on the various trucks. But the humanitarian crisis that broke out in recent days, with an estimated 2.5 million people forced to abandon everything to find refuge in Poland, Romania, Moldova and wherever possible, has led Italtrans to launch a new operation, as Laura explains. Bertulessi, wife of Claudio Bellina – one of the three founding members of Italtrans – very well known in the racing world as the team principal of the homonymous Moto2 team that lines up Lorenzo Dalla Porta and Joe Roberts. “We decided to create a convoy, open to anyone willing and able to participate, to go as far as Poland to recover some refugees – she explains. The situation is dramatic, there are thousands of people who have lost everything and are standing in line, in the cold and often eating little or nothing, waiting for someone to take them to safety somewhere “.
away saturday from udine
–
The departure is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, at 13.30 at the Udine stadium, from where the convoy will set off towards Poland. Anyone interested in participating, just be there at the agreed time. “We feel involved in all this and we are trying to ensure that as many people as possible try to help us – continues Bertulessi -. There are those who have provided us with a few minibuses but without drivers, so we will put those. We are working hard, but the requests for help are so many that we have begun to coordinate with the Prefecture. But at the moment, more than basic necessities, the priority is to help refugees. Of the more than two and a half million, more than half are children, many without even their parents. It’s a heartbreaking situation ”.
