There are problems with card payments in these shops

If you want to use this weekend for shopping, you should have cash with you to be on the safe side. Because: There are still massive problems with card payments.

The disruption has been going on since Tuesday, affecting transactions at one of the most used card payment terminals from the manufacturer Verifone. Among other things, there are problems with Rossmann, dm, Edeka, Aldi Nord and Netto Marken-Discount.

On the other hand, there should be no restrictions at Rewe, Aldi Süd, Lidl and Penny.

Verifone, meanwhile, announced on Thursday: “We will shortly provide a software update for our customers to fix the problem and will inform our customers as soon as it is available.”

“We regret the inconvenience and are working to fix the problem with the highest priority,” a company spokesman said.

Nevertheless, a quick solution is not in sight. According to the payment service provider Payone, the cause of the disruption is a certificate error within certain versions of the software provided by Verifone.

The payment service provider does not expect that the announced software update can be implemented quickly because, according to previous information, manual intervention at the terminals is necessary.

“This complex process can therefore not be carried out ad hoc in the area, but will take a long time,” it said. We want to support the businesses in this.

According to “Lebensmittel Zeitung”, large chains in particular are concerned that the distribution of the update will take several days due to limited capacities. Because even if the first branches can accept card payments on Friday or Saturday, it could take until Monday morning for others.

Important to know: ATMs at banks are not affected by the disruption.
