Sweden’s victory has been bittersweet for the five nations. However, there does not seem to be any kind of “conspiracy”.
In the Eurovision final, Finland’s representative Käärijä got by far the most public votes, but Sweden’s Loreen won thanks to the votes of the professional jury. This has caused consternation and even conspiracy theories among Wisu fans.
1. Cold in volume?
Sweden’s victory is being hotly debated on social media. In the social comments, people wonder, among other things, why the votes of the professional council were used 58 points less than the votes of the public.
This is practically due to the fact that the distribution of public votes also included the votes of the “rest of the world”, which increased the public pot by one country quota. The rest of the world could vote for their favorite and the votes received from there were counted as one country’s votes. So it’s not about any “cold game”.

2. Loreen’s song plagiarized?
Both social channels and Iltalehti’s e-mail have been filled with messages suspecting Loreen Tattoo– that the song is plagiarized.
The song has been compared to Ukraine’s 2011 Eurovision representative Mika Newton’s song published in 2005 V plenu to the song.
Some of the social media commentators even demand that Loreen’s win be rejected.
Legal representative of Teosto Antti Härmämaan according to the similarity of two songs should be quite comprehensive in order to cross the plagiarism threshold. According to him, it would look at the flow of the melody, the rhythm, and the lyrics might also have some meaning.
– If you think about popular music, the fact is that there are quite a limited number of chord progressions. A certain similarity must therefore be allowed in principle. If the songs sound a bit the same, it’s not plagiarism at that point, Härmänmaa clarifies.
Härmämaa reminds that plagiarism regulations in foreign countries are not necessarily the same as in Finland. He also does not take a position on how valid the plagiarism accusations against Loreen are.

3. Abba’s 50th anniversary?
Among other things, a Norwegian Dagbladet writes that conspiracy theories have been spread on social media that Sweden’s victory was somehow “arranged”.
The argument is based on the fact that next year it will be 50 years since the Swedish band Abba’s visu win and that is why they would like to organize the visu in Sweden.
Eurovision expert Anna Muurinen knock out the argument. According to him, it is a pure coincidence.
– Quite a big claim. Sweden dominates that competition quite sovereignly. As long as there is no proof, I trust that it is more of a coincidence.
However, according to Muurinen, it is really great that Sweden is allowed to hold the competitions.
– After all, it’s super sweet when they get to celebrate their anniversary. Sweden has given a lot to Eurovision. Let’s give it to them now, Muurinen smiles.
