The interview took place following De Croo’s visit to Israel last week. It was broadcast on Thursday, a day after De Croo arrived. “Our Prime Minister is in your country to tell you how you should behave and how you should commit war crimes,” Francken said in English.

“But our Prime Minister does nothing about the anti-Semitism and hatred of Jews that we see every day in Brussels and Belgium. No one is arrested and the police do not intervene. And now the Prime Minister, with an eye to an international career, is going to your country to give you lessons on how to behave and what to do.” Francken believes that “the drop in the bucket that is totally full”, he says.

“Did you actually know that you were going to be on TV?” is the first reaction of Elisabeth Lucie Baeten, better known as ‘Katrien from Politics PR, when Theo Frnacken calls her. “How did they actually get to you? Was that an action in which they called mayors of random Flemish villages? Called in myself. Yes, of course, yes, it’s a shame about that English,” it sounds satirical, but Katrien says she has solutions for that.

“We still have the smack procedure ready here. Ah no, just like urinating in public back then (this summer images emerged of Theo Francken who, in an apparently drunken state, urinated in a planter in Brusselsed.) Just pretend like nothing happened? Yes, okay and hope everyone forgets.”

“Okay Mr. Francken, the better, then we leave that so. I’m just going to send you an email with those last English tips and I’ll also suddenly send that moral compass as an attachment, so you will have it back as well. Okay, great Mr. Francken, thank you for calling. And we see each other in the turn.”

Theo Francken responds

Theo Francken seems to be able to laugh at the satirical video. “Haha point taken. Good afternoon,” the N-VA politician said in a response on Instagram.
