Ridley Scott’s Napoleon Bonaparte film, announced since 2020, has a release date. The Apple TV project, starring Joaquin Phoenix as “Emperor of the French,” hits US theaters on November 22.
It is still unclear when the film will then be included in the program on Apple TV+. The streaming provider secured the rights in 2021 with the working title “Kitbag”, but the film was then named after the French ruler. Along with the launch date was also a photo of the shooting published, which shows Phoenix on a horse during a battle scene.
For the actor and Scott, it is the second collaboration after a break of more than 20 years after “Gladiator”. There Phoenix also embodies an emperor with Commodus.
The production for the epic has been running since February 2022, the following month it was filmed in Great Britain, among other places. Tahar Ramin stars alongside the Oscar winner as politician Paul Barras and Vanessa Kirby as Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoleon’s wife. Phoenix is also currently filming the Joker sequel, Folie à Deux. The musical, starring Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, is slated to hit theaters on October 4th.
