What does theater in juvenile prison have to do with restorative justice

«The theater in juvenile prison should not be read as a simple recreational experience». Talking is Paolo Billi director of the Teatro del Pratello for 25 years, tra the organizers of the Festival.. It’s much more. «It’s a job, a commitment. Which challenges teens to deal with issues that are critical to teens in general. Listening to others, respect, constancy, precision, being in a repetitive context». Our productions involve both inmates and those in the “external penal area”, i.e. serving their sentences outside prison. Seniors are also involved in the construction of our shows. As can be clearly understood from the title of the show that we bring to the debut. People of a generation that seems to invite conflict with the boys in the juvenile penal area. Disbanded minors against brooding and critical elderly people. Instead it is an opportunity for meeting, for mutual recognition. And this is the first movement necessary to trigger the remedial action, the ability to meet».

What unites theater and mediation

The round table confirms it Theater and Mediation: listening. They participate scholars, prison theater professionals, young people in charge of Justice or leaving the criminal circuit, who have participated in theatrical projects. It follows Saturday April 1st a dialogue conference by title Mediation and Theatre: perspectives. By comparison young people who have lived the experience of the criminal trial, young people who have been victims of crime, young people who have participated in restorative justice courses or who have not been able or wanted to do so. And boys who have become mediators in their school.
