Theater group Het Nieuwe Goed is busy these days in theater De Tamboer in Hoogeveen. There they are putting the finishing touches to their new performance Breakpoint, in which they investigate both the literal and figurative meaning of ‘breaking and gluing’.
The play becomes one with different aspects. “Singing, dancing and ghosts all come together in this piece. During this piece we try to metaphorically figure out when you arrive at the ‘Breaking Point’ as a human being. So that you know when situations break, and how to fix them” , says organizer Erik van Dijk.
The group is given all the time and space to prepare the play down to the last detail. Van Dijk: “We have been given the keys to the hall for several days, so that we can rehearse the piece.” And that is necessary, because the group of theater makers does not know each other at all. “That’s what’s special about this play. It’s really a group of strangers put together. Everything was built from the ground up.”
And that is special, because the theater produced the play itself. An unusual phenomenon in the theater world. “When I heard about the initiative, everything in me started to tickle and I grabbed this opportunity with both hands. I really want to learn from these people and develop myself through this multidisciplinary piece,” says one of the theater makers.
The play will premiere next Friday in the theater in Hoogeveen. Before that time, many rehearsals will follow and the piece will be prepared down to the last detail.
