Theater group De Noordelingen cannot perform during FestiValderAa in Schipborg. Staatsbosbeheer has banned the performances because they are planned within Natura 2000 area. FestiValderAa confirms the cancellation.
The festival thought it was private property. The owner of this has given permission for the performances, reports a spokesperson. It turned out to be incorrect, because it is a protected nature reserve, under the responsibility of Staatsbosbeheer. “He pulled the plug.”
The organization regrets the state of affairs, because De Noordelingen were always very welcome guests. “They play here almost every year, and have a very large following. A really popular and well-attended part of the festival.” The theater group consists of young people, around eighteen years old. Many of them actually want to follow theater training.
The other activities during the festival are not up for discussion, the spokesperson said. More than a week ago it became clear that the festival could definitely continue after five Schipborgers asked the court to withdraw the nature permit. They believe that the festival in the Drentsche Aa area causes too much damage to nature. The judge did not agree.
FestiValderAa started yesterday and will last until Sunday.
