On Monday, director of Theater Bellevue Jeannette Smit received the Amsterdam Frans Banninck Cocqpenning for her commitment to the art sector in the capital. Alderman Touria Meliani gave Smit the award.
Smit has been director of Theater Bellevue for 21 years, she is also production manager of mime groups that have just started. In addition, she was also involved in committees in the art sector of Amsterdam. In this way, according to the municipality, she committed herself to young theater makers, who were given a chance to perform because of her.
The Frans Banninck Cocq Medal is awarded to persons who have made an exceptional contribution to Amsterdam during a period of at least twelve years. People who have performed exceptionally well for Amsterdam in sports, science, journalism, art, politics or economics with a national or international reputation are also eligible for the medal.
