No more theater performance in De Fabriek in Coevorden in 2023. Theater Hofpoort temporarily moved to this location during the corona period. But because the rent was financed from the corona support of the municipality, the board of Stichting Cultuurpodium Coevorden is forced to close the doors of the temporary theater.
Because this is a temporary location, a one-off event permit must be applied for – and issued – for each performance. This also played a role in the decision.
Theater De Hofpoort turned out to be unsuitable as a corona-proof theatre. To guarantee a distance of one and a half meters between the audience, there was only room for 30 visitors. In addition, the municipality also needed the Hofpoortzaal more often for its own organization during the corona period. This led to the search for an alternative stage location. And so De Fabriek appeared on the scene of Coevorden.
The Factory was more resistant to the corona measures. There was room for at least 80 visitors, one and a half meters away. And when those measures were no longer required, the location could accommodate up to 100 theater enthusiasts. But due to the drying up of the corona support, the curtain falls on the temporary theater.
There has been an investigation into the organization and future of Theater Hofpoort last year. It will be made public in the near future. The results of this report will be included in the vision for the future of theatre.
