Theater club puts Middelie on notice for its 150th anniversary: ”It connects the village”

Middelie is not a large village, but now that the local theater association has existed for 150 years, many people have rolled up their sleeves to make it a great party. Last weekend the association performed with a large set piece on the ice rink of ice club Desteuning and this weekend they are doing it again. “It’s just our hobby and if you look at what we have caused, that is very special,” says board member Rachelle Wagner.

Rachelle has been a member of the association since 2018, is not from Middelie, but when she moved, she took special care not to go too far, so that she could remain a member. She says it’s that much fun there. Since December she has been rehearsing with her association for the performance Nimmerland, which is set before the well-known adventures of Peter Pan.

“We also did an outdoor piece on our last anniversary,” says Rachelle. “We liked it so much that we wanted to do it again.”

It makes her happy that so many volunteers wanted to help make these performances possible. A lot of time was spent on the set, which consists of half a ship.

“If you look at how many people have contributed to this, it’s great. In Amsterdam you would have to throw money at it to make this happen. And here everyone volunteers their time and effort to make this happen. It connects people and that is very nice.”
