Calvera Hydrogen has developed a 45-foot ‘tube trailer’ model at its Zaragoza facilities with a storage capacity of more than one ton to service Shell’s hydrogen stations in different parts of the world

The Zaragoza company Calvera Hydrogen, with more than 40 years of experience in the design and manufacture of compression, transport, storage and dispensing of hydrogen at high pressure under the highest safety standards, has developed at its facilities in Zaragoza (Spain) the world’s largest capacity hydrogen Tube Trailer model. The team is prepared to transport a ton of hydrogen on the roads of the USA. and over 1.3 tons (about 2,870 pounds) on EU roads (due to different road weight regulations in each region), with a working pressure of 517 bar. These figures make it the tube trailer with the highest work pressure in the international market.

It is constructed of state-of-the-art carbon fiber and is 45 feet long in a project developed for the multinational Shell Hydrogen and which will be used to service the company’s hydrogen refueling stations around the world. Both companies have been working together for more than two years on the engineering and technological development of this project, which will take its first steps in the United States and Germany. At the moment, As a result of a framework agreement between both companies, new units of this tube trailer model are being developed. to cover the hydrogen transportation needs of Shell’s refueling stations in United States, Europe and United Kingdom.

The equipment is designed to maximize the capacity and pressure of the stored hydrogen, and thus achieve maximum efficiency and cost savings in the hydrogen dispatch process at hydrogen refueling stations, acting through automatic valves integrated into the control system in different stages of pressure and performing the double function of mobile and fixed intelligent storage.

Ricardo Calverathe Technical Director of Calvera Hydrogen, said: “It is an honor for us to collaborate so closely with a team of such high quality as that of Shell Hydrogen to carry out this emblematic project. We want to thank the company for its confidence in our technical capacity , experience and a rigorous approach to security”. This project stands out for the innovation and complexity of its design and has been conceived under the highest security standards. It has a differential characteristic that makes it unique, since it is approved to comply with the current regulations in both the United States and Europe, which has been a challenge both in the design and in the regulatory processes for its approval. Oliver Bishop, General Manager of Shell Hydrogen, said: “This new project drives our growth and leadership in this rapidly developing global hydrogen supply industry, where Shell Hydrogen is committed to becoming a world leader & rdquor;
