The young Montalbanothe plot of the first episode
Montalbano’s first investigation is the first of six episodes that make up the first season. It’s the fall of 1990. Salvo Montalbano (Michele Riondino) is just over thirty years old and he is deputy commissioner in Mascalippa, an imaginary village on the Sicilian Apennines. Although he loves his job, he is not satisfied with the place where he is forced to do it, as he misses the sea.
He has long been engaged to Mery (Katia Greco), a teacher from Catania. Theirs is a long-distance story and they only see each other over the weekend, when she returns to Mascalippa. Montalbano is affectionate, but doesn’t feel ready to turn the relationship into something serious. And when Mery mentions marriage and children, Salvo just wants to run away. Certainly, she is not the woman of his life and they soon say goodbye.
In fact, he becomes commissioner and a new page begins. It is transferred to Vigata, a municipality in the province of the mysterious Montelusaand the adventures that have kept readers and viewers company for over twenty years begin. Montalbano has unfinished business with Vigata. He lived there as a child, after his mother died. The father still lives there, works as a winemaker, but the two are not on good terms at all.
The meeting between Salvo and Augello, Catarella and Fazio
Once inside the new police station, knows the agents with whom he is called to collaborate. Among all, two of the colleagues with whom he will share various experiences and with whom he will establish a relationship that will go beyond simple professional esteem. It’s about Carmine Fazio (Andrea Tidona) – an experienced inspectorwhich helps him become familiar with the new office and with the new reality – and a young Agatino Catarella (Fabrizio Pizzuto), a policeman who is as nice as he is clumsy. Mimì Augello (Alessio Vassallo) closes the circlewith whom there is initially no good blood.
The first case he is called to work on concerns the murder of a certain Casio Allettoa man with a record for cattle rustling. The main suspect is Gaetano Borruso known as Tano (Renato Lenzi), a shepherd on whom the accusations fall. Montalbano, however, suspects that he is not the real culprit.
That’s not all, why the commissioner is focused on solving another story. It’s about Viola Monaco (Valentina D’Agostino), a woman who has suffered a rape in the past. Now, years later, she is ready to put into practice a foolproof plan to take revenge on her captor. Providential is the intervention of Salvo, who in addition to stopping her, manages to capture the man.
