Per the young Montalbano – title of the homonymous prequel series of Inspector Montalbano – a new investigation is expected. Tonight at 21.25 on Rai 1 the rerun of the third episode is on the airby title Back to the origins. The episode starring Michele Riondino – available on RaiPlay – also focuses on the first meeting between Salvo and Livia and on the beginning of a deep friendship with Mimì Augello.

After the New Year’s murder and the end of the love story with Mery (Katia Greco), the commissioner dedicates himself even more to his work. Some time has passed since he took office in Vigata and he is now at home. He has established a great relationship with his agents and everything seems to be going smoothly.
Unexpectedly a new deputy arrives, one Mimì Augello (Alessio Vassallo). The first meeting between the two is anything but peaceful. Augello enters Montalbano’s office and life with a straight leg. Salvo, in turn, doesn’t appreciate it and does everything to keep him at a distance and also unaware of his work. Despite himself, she must learn to involve him. It’s the beginning of a relationship that will turn into a great friendship and that will last a lifetime. In the main series, Augello is played by Cesare Bocci and is the greatest friend of the commissioner (Luca Zingaretti).
As always, at the center of the plot there are not only the personal events of the protagonist and all the other characters, but also the crimes that enliven the life of the quiet Sicilian town. On the day of San Calorio, Vigata celebrates the saint with a patronal feast. The citizens are having a picnic in the square and the young Montalbano enjoys a solitary lunch in the police station.

Salvo meets Livia, the beginning of a troubled love story
An instant before biting into a fried fish, he receives a call from Fazio (Andrea Tidona). He warns him that during the party, a little girl, Laura Belli, disappeared and was later found in a villa a few kilometers away. She is in shock, but shows no obvious signs of abuse or mistreatment. According to the landlord, the little girl showed up alone at her gate and she says she noticed her left cheek reddened.
Montalbano understands that something is up and starts the investigation. He focuses on the child’s father, Fernando Belli (Filippo Dini)owner of a wholesale and grilled fish business with his brother-in-law Gerlando (Vincenzo Ferrera). It also involves Augello, more to put it to the test than out of real necessity. AND the deputy demonstrates his investigative flair.

Meanwhile, Fernando Belli is reluctant to collaborate with Montalbano and, in doing so, fuels suspicions about himself and his family. In the meantime, An eyewitness to the kidnapping shows up at the police station. And it is increasingly evident that the reason for the kidnapping is to be found within the family walls.
The journey of the young Montalbano intertwines with that of Livia Burlando, a Genoese architect on holiday in Vigata, guest of the Belli family. Immediately ends up in the crosshairs of Augello, hardened tombeur de femmesbut it doesn’t take much for his interest to divert to the commissioner. And Augello just has to step aside.
The beginning of the love story between Salvo and Livia
Back to the origins it also marks the beginning of the tormented love story between Salvo Montalbano and Livia Burlando. To play her in the two seasons of Young Montalbano is Sarah Felberbaum. In the Inspector Montalbano, however, the role was entrusted to three actresses. In the first eight seasons, a Katharina Böhmwhich many also remember for the role of Angela Mancinelli in the series My friendnext to Massimo Dapporto.
Then it was the turn of Lisa Perned and Sonia Bergamascowho joined the cast in the tenth season. The relationship between Salvo and Livia has always accompanied viewers. At the end of the fifteenth season, broadcast in 2021, Montalbano decides to close after meeting Antonia Nicoletti (Greta Scarano).
However, after twenty years of back and forth closing is a difficult task. And who knows that in the new episodes – perhaps scheduled for the 2024-2025 season – the coveted happy ending will not arrive for the two.
