The wrong sky by Silvia Truzzi: the review by Aldo Cazzullo

“Margherita Bassi born Casadei had managed to hide her pregnancy for six months, so little was her belly to be seen. Then one day, while they were eating in silence, her Queen, her mother, said to her: “You have gained weight. Either someone feeds you and you spread your legs in return, or you spread your legs once and stayed there. In any case, you are a whore ”».

I have always been convinced that Italian journalists write real ones better than writers. Then we have horrible defects: for example, an ancient tradition of links with political power, sometimes even with economic power, from which it is essential to free oneself; but as writing they have to leave us alone.

Silvia Truzzi’s second novel is written as you guessed from the first lines: very well.

The first was called Be quiet when you get back and came out in 2018. This is called The wrong sky and has just left Longanesi.

“The wrong sky” by Silvia Truzzi (Longanesi).

The story begins in Mantua, in 1918, at the end of the Great War. Two little girls are born almost at the same time: Irene is a marquis; Dora is an orphan, but beautiful. A thread unites them and will intertwine their lives.

Obviously the plot of the novels is not told. But do you know, for example, what was written in the letters with which the Ministry of War announced the death of an infantryman to the Municipality concerned?

«” The painful duty of participating in the SV is fulfilled when Casadei Giovanni fell on May 19th during the battle in the Isonzo Valley. Of the foregoing, please inform the respective family, with the regards that the case requires “. There had been no concerns, the man had put the card in her hand and Regina, who could not read, turned to her daughter with eyes overwhelmed by fear: “If he’s dead don’t say a word, I don’t want to hear him” ».
Definitely, Silvia Truzzi writes very well.
