Canada announced its World Cup team on Friday. There is not a single bright NHL star on the roster. Perhaps the most famous players are Tyler Toffoli, Milan Lucic, Tyler Myers and MacKenzie Weegar.
Canadian hockey fans commented on the team on Twitter with harsh words.
– Probably Canada’s worst team ever, wrote one fan.
– This team might drop out of the main league, another tweet.
“I think this might be the worst team I’ve ever seen Canada send to a World Cup. Embarrassing, said a third.
Some Canadians have noticed that the American team is also missing all the NHL stars.
– First the USA team, now Canada. What are these configurations? I’m laughing so hard, one puck fan was amazed.
Players who represented the country at the Under-20 World Cup in 2018 could not be selected for the Canadian team. The players of that team are under investigation, as some of the players are suspected of gang rape. However, this does not explain the star ceiling.
In 2018, Canada was represented at the Junior World Championships by names such as Cale Makar, Jordan Kyrou, Drake Batherson and Maxime Comtois.
Canada will play in Group B of the Games in Riga together with the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Slovakia, Latvia, Norway, Kazakhstan and Slovenia. The United States, on the other hand, will face Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, France, Austria and Hungary in Tampere’s A group.
The World Cup kicks off next Friday, May 12. At the Finland-USA match.
