The top series of American football, the NFL, started this weekend. The reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs decided to spice up their opening ceremony by organizing a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many.
The fans who packed Arrowhead Stadium turned their eyes to the sky during the United States national anthem. Accompanied by music and fireworks, it was not a noisy jet but a genuine Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit bomber flying above the stadium.
As expected, the arrow-shaped machine equipped with fading technology made the audience scream in admiration. Although the first pieces of the B-2 were already made in the late 1980s, seeing them in the air is extremely rare.
On the other hand, the machine is not meant to be visible. Over 50 meters wide and flying at an altitude of up to 11 kilometers, the plane cannot be detected by radar, making it a deadly destroyer. Another thing to mention is how quietly it flies in the sky.
It is designed for reconnaissance missions and to carry missiles and even nuclear bombs. The plane is not spoiled by altitude, but it can carry up to 16 nuclear bombs at once.
The United States has used stealth aircraft at least in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. As is typical for a long-range bomber, the B-2 can be refueled mid-flight, which enables missions lasting days.
– I think the longest flight lasted over 40 hours in 2001, a B-2 pilot Anthony Mascaro tells Popular Science in the article.
The Chiefs’ home stadium is not far from where the B-2s are stored. Missouri Air Force Base is only 50 miles away, making it easy to host air shows.
Still in use in 2030

Only 21 machines have been made, each of which has cost hundreds of millions of dollars to taxpayers.
Measured in today’s money, building one B-2 would cost more than $2 billion, including equipment. Youtube channel of Tech Vision according to just getting the plane in the air costs more than a hundred thousand dollars.
The United States first used them in a conflict situation in the late 1990s. They are planned to be flown in the 2030s.
Bombers have made ceremonial flights at American football games before, but the sight of the B-2 overhead manages to delight Americans. The opposite is true for those at war with the United States.
