– This is the message of the Prime Minister of Finland For Petteri Orpo.
A video of the Barcelona gambler was published in which he says that the Spanish government has submitted a request to add Catalan to the official language of the European Union.
– For this request to come true, all European countries must vote in favor of the proposal, Bonmatí opens the process.
He says that Catalan already has the status of an official language in Spain and that it is the 13th most spoken language in the European Union. Now the Spanish want Catalan to have the same official status as the 24 other languages of the European Union.
– That’s why we ask you to accept my mother tongue, Catalan, into the family of European official languages. We trust you, Finland! Bonmatí concludes his message.
Bonmatí is involved in the civil campaign of Plataforma per la Llengua, which asks member states to accept the Catalan language. Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola appeared in the corresponding videowhich was addressed to the Prime Minister of Sweden.
Bonmatí, 25, was born in Catalonia and has represented Catalonia in two caps, but last summer he won the World Cup in a Spanish shirt.
Catalonia is one of Spain’s 17 autonomous regions. Its capital is Barcelona.
